(Cricket news) Indian women's cricket team lost the 3 match ODI series against England 2-1. England won the first match by 9 wickets after which India came back with an 8 wicket win. The visitors lost the decider T20 by 7 wickets with 3 balls to spare as all 3 matches were pretty one sided. Losing to England away from home isn't really that disappointing but the manner in which they lost is very concerning. England were missing their captain Heather Knight and vice captain Nat Sciver along with senior seam bowler Katherine Brunt but India were still outplayed.
India's selection inconsistencies were once again pretty clear. KP Navgire and Dayalan Hemalatha, the two new names in the squad were put straight into the playing XI and it would've made perfect sense for them to play all 3 matches. Navgire failed to make an impact in the 1st match in which no Indian batter played well while she didn't get a chance to bat in the 2nd match. She was subsequently dropped from the side which isn't ideal because India desperately needed a big hitter like her. Richa Ghosh played really well in the 3rd match and has done so whenever she has got a chance. There is no reason why she wasn't a part of the Commonwealth Games squad as her presence would have made a difference.
It seems like the captain, team management and the selectors are constantly changing their minds which isn't allowing the team to settle. Apart from skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, her deputy Smriti Mandhana and star all-rounder Deepti Sharma, there is no core to this team. The T20 World Cup starts in February next year and India simply don't have a good enough team. There are some really good individual players who need to be nurtured into specific roles.
