What Salah Needs for 2025 Golden Boot

As the 2024–2025 football season draws to a close, several players are still involved in exciting personal battles, even though many league titles have already been decided.  The competition for the 2025 Golden Boot, a highly sought-after prize given to the year’s greatest goal scorer, is among the most exciting.

There are still a few players in this intense competition, but only three have a real opportunity to win this reward.  Mohamed Salah of Liverpool is one of them.  The Egyptian maestro has a difficult road ahead of him even though he is a strong candidate.

With Sporting Lisbon’s season officially over, Viktor Gyokeres has already withdrawn from the competition.  With 39 goals and 58.5 points in the weighted scoring system, he is a formidable opponent.  Kylian Mbappe, who has 58 points and 29 La Liga goals, is breathing down his neck.  Salah, meanwhile, has scored 26 goals and amassed 56 points in the Premier League.

When Salah exited the field goalless against Brighton in Liverpool’s most recent match, his search came to a halt.  Now that Crystal Palace is only one game away, the stakes are bigger than ever.  Salah needs a single goal to square the score at 58 points and perhaps win the Boot through tie-breakers like fewer minutes played if Mbappe is unable to score against Real Sociedad in his last La Liga match.  However, Salah needs to score at least two goals to pass Mbappe if he scores 60 points.

Robert Lewandowski and Harry Kane, two other well-known sharpshooters, have been left behind.  Kane finished the season with 26 goals and no games left, but Lewandowski would need to score five goals in his final game—along with a complete lack of goals from Salah and Mbappe—which is as unlikely as it is fascinating.
