With his departure from FC Barcelona, Vitor Roque has once again made headlines, calling his time there a “failed signing.” After leaving Real Betis early, the Brazilian forward made his official debut with Palmeiras. He didn’t mince words when he spoke about the Sevilla team, as he had done with Barcelona, to defend his choice: “Here, I will fight to win the league title.”
When asked about his decision to relocate to Brazil, Roque, who is now regarded as the true hero of his new squad, responded to the media with a message of hope that may have been flavored with populism. He clarified, “When Palmeiras calls, it’s hard to say no,” before making a startling statement. “At Betis, we were fighting to enter the Conference League; here, I will fight to win the league title.”
Although he thanked them for their support, this comment has not gone over well with Betis supporters. Supporters of Verdiblanco, however, shouldn’t be surprised given the vitriol he had leveled at Barcelona after moving to Sevilla.
The athlete, who said that he did not come to Spain “one hundred percent,” thinks that this is a major factor in his failure to succeed in La Liga. When he joined Betis, he used a same tactic, criticizing Barcelona right away. In response to his loan to Sevilla, Roque said, “I had hoped for a different Barcelona experience. I anticipated that the management would treat me differently, play a different way, and communicate with me differently. However, that is now in the past. I’m grateful for the chance to play for Betis and to don the national team once more.
