Virat Kohli sanctioned post the argument over his dismissal

(Cricket News) Virat Kohli’s controversial dismissal against the Kolkata Knight Riders’ has left the social media burning. Virat was dismissed off a full toss from Harshit Rana which seemed to be above the waist but was given out, as ball tracking technology showed the ball dipping bellow his waist.

Based on ball tracking techonology, which this season also takes into account player heights, the third umpire reckoned that the ball would’ve dipped below the waist had Kohli been batting from his crease.

Virat has now been fined 50 percent of his match fees for showing his dissent and violating the IPL Code of Conduct. He was visibly unhappy and also had an outburst on the umpire after being given out.

According to rule 41.7 of ICC regulations, any delivery, which passes or would have passed, without pitching, above waist height of the striker standing upright at the popping crease, is to be deemed to be unfair, whether or not it is likely to inflict physical injury on the striker. If the bowler bowls such a delivery the umpire shall immediately call and signal No ball.

The third umpire upheld the on-field decision of out much to the annoyance of Kohli. The dismissal has divided opinions amongst the cricket pundits. Some felt that it was a fair delivery, while some reckoned it as poor umpiring.

Virat was dismissed for 18 in a must-win encounter for RCB. RCB eventually lost the game by 1 run, chasing a big total of 222. This was RCB’s 7th loss of the season and KKR has doubled over their arch rivals this season. With the loss RCB are now virtually out of the tournament. They have 6 games left and even if they win all of them, they would probably have to depend on the other teams for a possible qualification.
