Villarreal vs Espanyol Match Postponed

Due to a red alert in the province of Castellón, the much-anticipated match between Villarreal and Espayol, which was supposed to wrap up Matchday 26 of La Liga, has been postponed.  Because to the region’s recent heavy rains and unfavorable weather, officials advise against holding the game at La Cerámica Stadium in order to avoid possible flooding.

After the stadium’s formal announcement, which was broadcast on the PA system and shown on screens inside the building, supporters were ordered to leave their seats.  It is noteworthy that players from both sides had already started warming up on the field when they were told in the locker room that the game would not go as scheduled.

Villareal stated in a statement posted on social media that the Professional Competition Judge had ordered the match to be postponed “due to the risk of flooding resulting from the current DANA weather pattern affecting Castellón.”  Espanyol also released a statement stating that they had not yet decided on a new date for the game.  The statement read, “We are truly sorry, especially for the Espanyol fans who made the trip to La Cerámica today, but this is the most prudent decision for everyone’s safety.” They also conveyed their sorrow for the fans that traveled to La Cerámica.

It has been formally confirmed that the Matchday 26 match between Villarreal CF and RCD Espanyol has been postponed due to safety concerns regarding the possibility of flooding caused by the ongoing DANA weather phenomenon in Castellón.  The new date for the Villarreal-Espanyol game will be revealed soon after the AEMET has given its approval.  Safety must come first, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience, especially to the devoted fans that traveled today.
