(Cricket News) Former England cricket captain Michael Vaughan expressed on Friday that India is among the cricket teams worldwide that has not lived up to its potential.

During the Australia vs. Pakistan Test, Vaughan posed a question to Mark Waugh, asking if he believed India was one of the most underachieving sports teams globally. Waugh chose not to provide a direct response and instead turned the question back to Vaughan.

Vaughan remarked, “They haven’t been very successful recently. I think they are an underachieving side. They don’t secure many victories. When was the last time they won something? Despite having abundant talent and skill, they should have achieved more.” He acknowledged India’s Test series victories in Australia but pointed out their lackluster performances in recent World Cups and T20 World Cups.

Vaughan emphasized that India, with its considerable talent and resources, should have achieved much more than they have. He stated, “They’re a good team with plenty of talent, but despite their resources, they struggle to win.”

In the context of India’s recent Test against South Africa, Vaughan noted that although Virat Kohli scored a fifty, the team failed to offer strong resistance with the bat, resulting in a defeat by an innings and 32 runs. South Africa’s pace trio of Nandre Burger, Kagiso Rabada, and Marco Jansen played a crucial role in India’s downfall with a disciplined bowling attack, after South Africa had posted 408 in their first innings.

Earlier, Marco Jansen’s unbeaten 84 and Dean Elgar’s 185 as the top-scorer had propelled South Africa to a substantial lead.
