Tottenham Hotspurs will play Aston Villa in the Premier League

Aston Villa travels to North London to take on a depleted and failing Tottenham Hotspur in an exciting Premier League match on Sunday afternoon

(Football news) Before the international break, the Lions defeated Fulham 3-1 to resume their winning ways, while Ange Postecoglou’s team lost consecutive games to Chelsea and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Tottenham Hotspurs were far from overwhelming favorites for their journey to Molineux a fortnight ago, having lost both their pride and several important players in their 4-1 humiliation at the hands of Chelsea, which put an end to their undefeated start to life under Postecoglou in the Championship.

After Brennan Johnson gave Spurs the lead in the third minute, the battered Lilywhites defense, which included the ineffective Eric Dier and backup center-half Ben Davies, bravely held on. However, Wolves substitute Pablo Sarabia ignited an incredible comeback in injury time, beating Guglielmo Vicario at his near post and slipping past Mario Lemina in the seventh minute of added time.

Even though Gary O’Neil was wheeling away in celebration down the touchline, Postecoglou remained composed and was able to look back on “plenty of positives” from his team’s second consecutive Premier League defeat. The loss could have been even more devastating had Wolves been able to capitalize on their earlier opportunities.

One of those advantages is that, with almost three-quarters of the season remaining, Tottenham is still in contention for a Champions League qualification spot. With 26 points, they are currently in fourth place in the standings, and their gap from top spot in the table is just two points. This Saturday lunchtime, the champions will play Liverpool.

Though former Gunners head coach Unai Emery stopped Tottenham in the capital just two weeks prior, Johnson’s early goal at Molineux at least guaranteed that Tottenham would extend their Premier League scoring streak to a whopping 24 matches since a 1-0 loss to recent foes Wolves in March. They haven’t failed to score in a home game in the top flight since January’s derby loss to Arsenal.

Even though Emery should put his disastrous time at Arsenal in the past, he should be prepared for a cold reception at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. However, if his Villa team beats the North London giants and advances to the top four on Sunday, he will have the last laugh.

Few predicted that the high-scoring Lions would lose 2-0 to Nottingham Forest in their first match of the month, but Villa turned things around by extending their incredible home run, having defeated Fulham 2-0 two weeks prior after defeating AZ Alkmaar 2-1 in the Europa Conference League.
