Thiago Silva signs a contract till 2024

(Football news) In anticipation of the 2020–21 season, the 39-year-old made the high-profile move from Paris Saint–Germain, the dominant team in France, to Stamford Bridge in the summer of 2020. Although Silva had only intended to play for Chelsea for a year, the defender has had a great four years in West London.

Under Thomas Tuchel’s capable leadership, the center back had a great debut season with the team, helping the Blues win the Champions League. Silva has made 152 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions since joining from PSG in 2020. He has won the FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, and Champions League.

“Following four seasons with Chelsea, Thiago Silva will depart after our final game of the Premier League season against Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge and re-join Brazilian club Fluminense,” read a statement on Chelsea’s official website.

“Chelsea have agreed with Thiago that he can join up early with his new teammates after signing a two-year contract with the Brazilian club.

“Thiago will be allowed to train with Fluminense prior to his registration transferring on July 1.

“The 39-year-old will depart Stamford Bridge having made more than 150 appearances for the Blues and having lifted the UEFA Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, and the UEFA Super Cup.

“He has also forged a lasting bond with Blues supporters and was named the club’s Player of the Year at the end of the 2022/23 campaign.”

With Silva’s definite exit at the end of the current season, Chelsea’s center-back options will now be considered for the future. Despite being 39 years old, the Brazil international has remained Mauricio Pochettino’s first-choice player, so his loss might be substantial.

Axel Disasi, Trevoh Chalobah, and Benoit Badiashile are just a few of Chelsea’s younger players that play defense and have all recently started games. Silva is expected to start for the Blues against Nottingham Forest on Saturday night after playing a key role in their 5-0 demolition of West Ham United over the weekend.
