The former Schalke boss Domenico Tedesco has been appointed as the new RB Leipzig manager till 2023

(Football news) RB Leipzig have yet again appointed a young manager in the form of Domenico Tedesco as the club acted quickly after the departure of Jesse Marsch. The 36 year old who previously coached Schalke and Spartak Moscow, has signed a contract to 2023 and will be on the bench for their  home against Borussia Moenchengladbach. He is a former youth coach at Hoffenheim and Stuttgart as the Italian-born Tedesco has limited Bundesliga experience having spent less than two seasons at Schalke but in those seasons he took them to Champions League also. This year he left Spartak Moscow.

Tedesco hasn't coached in the Bundesliga since he was fired by Schalke after a humiliating 7-0 defeat to Manchester City in the Champions League. Schalke were subsequently relegated the season after he left the club as they finished bottom with just three wins in 34 games. After Schalke, Tedesco spent two seasons in Russia with Spartak Moscow where he helped them finish second in the 2020/21 season. RB Leipzig will be hoping he has the same impact as Nagelsmann as both base their game on the same footballing philosophy.

Domenico Tedesco was born in Italy and raised in Stuttgart in Germany, as he started his coaching career at the youth teams of VfB Stuttgart and Hoffenheim. His first major role in management was with second-tier side Erzgebirge Aue, before prompting Bundesliga side Schalke offered him the job that summer. Schalke had finished the 2016/17 campaign 10th as then club’s sporting director Heidel decided a change was required. Heidel is known for giving both Jürgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel a start at Mainz, and this time he offered 31-year-old Tedesco his first top-flight experience. It was no surprise as Tedesco led Schalke to a second-place finish in his first season in charge, and in so doing helped them return to the UEFA Champions League for the first time in  four years.

Domenico Tedesco has a huge task of guiding this young and exuberant side back to the top, currently RB Leipzig are suffering their worst starts since winning promotion back as they lie 11th in the table, although they won midweek against Man City, Tedesco needs to instill a certain playing style that the Red Bull franchises are known for. Tedesco’s gameplan often revolves around his defense as we saw with his Schalke team, in contrast to the high-intensity style that Leipzig fans have become accustomed too, as he needs to firstly find the proper balance in the team and mainly move them up the league table. Former Cologne coach Achim Beierlorzer, who was Marsch's assistant, was in temporary charge for Leipzig's 2-1 win over City, is now leaving the club. Tedesco will be allowed to bring his own coaching set up as well
