Takeaways from India’s comfortable whitewash against Zimbabwe

(Cricket news) India inflicted a whitewash on Zimbabwe in the 3-match ODI series. The first two matches were comfortable wins for India but that last match was a thrilling one. This was India's 4th consecutive ODI series win and they now look on the right track in preparation for the World Cup next year. KL Rahul registered his first win as Indian captain in the 1st ODI and subsequently won his first series. Shubman Gill was the player of the series for the 2nd consecutive time in ODIs, scoring 245 runs in 3 matches including a century in the last one. He has truly made an impact in this format and showed that he can bat as an opener and in the middle order.

Just like the West Indies series, Mohammed Siraj with the new ball was incredible. He picked up 2 wickets in 2 games but his impact was much more than that. Axar Patel was the highest wicket taker with 6 wickets as he continued to perform well in all formats. Prasidh Krishna and Shardul Thakur continued their good form from the Windies tour and got 4 scalps in 2 games each. Kuldeep Yadav made a decent comeback into the side as he got 3 wickets in 3 games. Avesh Khan got an opportunity to play in the 3rd match and picked up 3 wickets. As a bowling unit India bowled really well and made things incredibly difficult for the home side.

Shikhar Dhawan also played well as he scored 154 runs. Ishan Kishan also got a fifty in the 3rd match after sitting on the sidelines for a while before this series. The series was a good opportunity for KL Rahul to spend some time in the middle but he couldn't bat for a long time. The main objective of the series was always going to test the bench strength of the team. Out of the whole squad only 3 to 4 players would make it into India's full strength XI which shows the kind of prowess India has. India's next ODI series is against where a similar squad is expected as it will be just before the T20 World Cup.
