Suryakumar Yadav’s brilliant batting helps MI to strengthen their playoff spot

MI reach 14 points after they defeated GT by 27 runs at the Wankhede Stadium while having two games to play

(Cricket news) Suryakumar Yadav and MI were at their level best against GT as they defeated them and went within the reach of two points of table toppers GT who are on 16. Winning the toss, GT decided to field first, which every captain would do at Wankhede Stadium.

Batting first MI went on to score 218 for the loss of 5 wickets. In reaching this total Suryakumar Yadav added 103* (49b, 11×4, 6×6). There were other key contributions from Ishan Kishan 31 (20b, 4×4, 1×6) and Vishnu Vinod 30 (20b, 2×4, 2×6). For Gujarat Titans, Rashid Khan was outstanding as he took 4 wickets for 30 runs in his 4 overs spell.

Batting second GT could only add up to 191 runs for the loss of 8 wickets. As Rashid Khan continued his brilliance in the second innings by scoring 79* (32b, 3×4, 10×6). David Miller tried to get some runs but could only add 41 (26b, 4×4, 2×6).

For Mumbai Indians, their bowlers were brilliant as they took early wickets which did not let GT’s innings have a strong base. Akash Madhwal who took 3 wickets in 4 overs by giving 31 runs was best bowler for MI as he was supported by the two spinners MI have Piyush Chawla and Kumar Kartikeya as both them clinched 2 wickets in 4 overs each.

This win for MI was crucial for them as it took them 2 points within first place GT and one point within CSK who are in second place. MI currently sit in third place with two games in hand with 12 games played. MI have played the same games as RR who are fourth and have a two points advantage on them.

Fifth place LSG are on eleven points with 11 games played and teams RCB, KKR and PBKS are 10 points, so MI are in a good position to qualify for the playoffs.

For the remaining matches MI will play LSG and SRH to secure their playoff spot whereas GT will play SRH and RCB to hold their first place and qualify as the table topper.
