Sule to leave Bayern Munich on free in the summer in search of a new challenge

(Football news) Bayern Munich CEO Oliver Kahn has confirmed that defender Niklas Sule will leave the club when his contract ends in the summer. The German rejected a few renewal proposals as he is looking for a new challenge all together.

Sule joined Bayern Munich from 1899 Hoffenheim in 2017. Since then, Sule has been a rock in the centre of defence and has made over a hundred appearances for the club. He has won a total of 13 major titles including a sextuple. Now at the age of 26, Sule is set to switch clubs and take up a new challenge. Barcelona is one of the potential destinations for the centre half but it is still early days to predict anything.

Bayern Munich signed Sule along with Sebastian Rudy from Hoffenheim. While Rudy couldn't break into the side and left after just 1 season, Sule made the cut and has been an important player for Bayern Munich. Despite his great performances, Sule has been troubled by a few injuries. In the ongoing season Sule has been fit and is undoubtedly first choice in Julian Nagelsman's team. One would have assumed that Sule will extend his stay in Bavaria but that isn't the case.

Barcelona have been linked with quite a few centre backs including Andreas Christiansen and Ceasar Azpilicueta both of whom are also out of contract in the summer. Sule would be a much better option but would also be a lot more expensive. Barcelona's financial crisis isn't going away anytime soon which makes Sule's signing much more complicated. Premier League clubs like Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are also said to be in the race.

Chelsea is a strong candidate considering their 3 centre backs Azpilicueta, Christiansen and Antonio Rudiger are all free agents in the summer if their renewal is not reached. Sule is still just 26 and is about to enter his prime. Moving away from a club like Bayern Munich in his prime is definitely a risk and could pay off if he chooses his destination right.
