On the first day of the second Ashes Test against England at Lord’s, the Australian vice-captain surpassed the 9000-run milestone in Test cricket. Achieving a half-century in the match, Steve Smith joined an esteemed group of Australian cricketers that includes Ricky Ponting, Allan Border, and Steve Waugh as one of only four Australians to reach the 9000-run mark in the longest format of the game.
