(Football news) Stefan Pioli is going to sign a contract extension with AC Milan till 2023, with a further option of extending his contract till 2024. The former Inter and Fiorentina coach arrived at the San Siro in October 2019 and since then he has taken the club back to the top of Italian football. He will sign a deal worth 3.5 million Euros a season including bonuses linked to European cups and competitions.
His record for the 106 games is: 59 Wins, 26 Draws and 20 Losses. He has a win percentage of 58% as an additional two matches were won on penalties. Milan have scored 211 goals and conceded 134 in his time at the helm. Pioli is now the second-longest serving manager for AC Milan in the past decade behind only Massimiliano Allegri (178 games). He has surpassed Gennaro Gattuso (82 games), Vincenzo Montella (64 games), Filippo Inzaghi (40 games) and Sinisa Mihajlovic (38 games). AC Milan for the first time in a long time have got some stability in the club.
Ever since he took over from Marco Giampaolo in 2019 he has guided Milan to a 5th and 2nd place finish in the league helping the Rossoneri qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in seven years. Pioli has amassed an average of 1.97 points per Serie A game. They are currently joint Serie A leaders with Napoli and back in the Champions League for the first time in seven years, all with a far smaller transfer budget than many of their rivals. Pioli will still be a very long way off the top-earning coaches in Serie A, who are Max Allegri at Juventus and Roma’s Jose Mourinho, both picking up €7m per season net.
This season, Pioli is bringing back the glory back to San Siro as they have lost only a single in the 13 matches they have played so far in league, amassing a staggering 32 points on the way. Pioli’s recruitment also has been on point as he has brought players which suit his playing philosophy and with a mix of youth and experience in the squad, his side are hitting peak form. Ever since the legends retired from the game, the team became a mid table club but with proper investment and having the right personnel at the club has paid dividends as they are again a force to reckon with in Italian football.
