(Football news) The Belgian-born Englishman is currently the talk of the town as he is getting used to being a manager of Ligue 1 club Reims. The north-eastern French team are making waves in Europe as they are the only unbeaten team in the Ligue 1 since Still initially took temporary charge in October after Oscar Garcia was sacked. Still is unbeaten in 15 games, including two draws with Paris St-Germain. Reims have a rich history who have won six Ligue 1 titles and lost to Real Madrid in only the second European Cup final in 1959 as they are defying expectations and sit 10th in the table.
Still was born and raised in the Belgian town called Braine-l’Alleud, after his father moved there to work for Shell as he was a lifelong West Ham United supporter after he later studied Football coaching at Myerscough College, in Lancashire, and landed his first job in professional football in 2014 when he became a video analyst for Sint-Truiden. A year later he followed Sint Truiden coach Yannick Ferrera to Standard Liege, but his coaching team were sacked as Still went on to become an assistant manager at Lierse in 2017.
His bad luck followed when Lierse were declared bankrupt as Still then went onto join Beerschot, where he spent two years as assistant before he took charge of the club in January 2021 and guided the newly-promoted side to within a point of the Europa League play-offs. He was later approached by Vincent Kompany, before he linked up for the first time with former Watford boss Garcia at Reims.
Still’s first stint as a manager only lasted a couple of months due to logistical problems regarding his UEFA A License. That meant an eight-month return to Liege as an assistant manager before beginning his second stint at Reims in July last year. Still took over the job when Garcia left in October but because he doesn’t have a Uefa Pro Licence, as per the Ligue 1 rules for its managers Reims have to pay £22,000 every time he coaches a game. He is currently studying for the qualification at the National Football Centre near Brussels, which he visits once or twice a month as the 30 year old is on the right path to receive a Uefa coaching license.
