Sri Lanka all over Afghanistan at the end of second days play

(Cricket news) Sri Lanka on day 2 surged to a 212-run lead on a flat SSC surface against Afghanistan in their one-off test. Angelo Mathews scored 141, Dinesh Chandimal hit his 15th Test century, and the duo added 232 for the fourth wicket to lead the hosts to a dominating position in the game.

Sri Lanka lost a couple of early wickets in the morning session of Day 2 and were reduced to 115/2. Dimuth Karunaratne soon followed after being dismissed for a well made 77, giving Afghanistan their 3rd wicket of the day.

After the early in-roads for Afghanistan, it was the experience of Angelo Mathews and Dinesh Chandimal who took charge for the Lankans and piled up a giant 232-run stand. Both the batters took full advantage of the inexperienced Afghanistan bowling line-up and scored wonderful centuries to push Afghanistan in the backfoot.

The Afghanistan attack were doughty through parts of the day. Debutant Naveed Zadran and leg spinner Qais Ahmad picked up two wickets each. It was a tough day for the bowlers, as they were against a Sri Lankan batting which showed intent.

Mathews-Chandimal stand that drove Sri Lanka’s dominance on day two. However ,the end of the day was unfortunate for the hosts, as Mathews got hit wicket of the very last ball of the day. The day in all belonged to Sri Lanka, as they took a massive 212 run lead.

With 4 wickets still in hand the hosts will look to extend their lead above 300 and eliminate any chances of a comeback from the Afghanis.
