Should the EFL cup be cancelled from next season to reduce fixture constraint?

(Football news) Ever since the 3rd wave has hit the world of football the Premier League is the only league which has had fixtures cancelled. Leagues in Spain, France, Germany and Italy despite having positive cases are functioning smoothly. One of the main reasons is that the Premier League has the least percentage of vaccinated players amongst the top five leagues.

Many managers have called for the games to be called off till the next year but the F.A is adamant to continue the games if possible. Two boxing day fixtures have already been cancelled and there is a high possibility that more cancellation will take place. The reason the F.A is reluctant to postpone fixtures is due to the constraints later. After the turn of the year the fixtures come hard and fast. Teams in Europe will have a difficult time. There are not enough windows to fit in the postponed fixtures. Which once again brings the question of the amount of games that are played in world football. The Premier League is also the only team to have matches during the Christmas period which has been subject to debate.

Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick was recently asked about his thoughts on the fixture list in England. The German said that the Carabao Cup has to be abolished. England is the only country that has two cup competitions. France Football cancelled their 2nd cup competition in 2020. It may be something that the Premier League could potentially look at. The Carabao Cup is nowhere near as prestigious as the F.A Cup and wouldn't be missed that much if it didn't exist.

Due to there being only one cup competition in the La Liga, the Copa del Rey doesn't start till January for the 1st division clubs which gives them more midweek fixtures in the first half of the league. The downside to cancelling the Carabao cup is the revenue it generates for the lower division clubs. With the FIFA World Cup happening in December next year it may be a very good idea to have just 1 cup competition in England just like it is in every other country.
