(Cricket news) IPL is going on in full force and there are already a few players who have had an impact. Usually a good performance in the IPL is a massive boost for a player’s selection in the Indian team. Last year Dinesh Karthik made a brilliant comeback into the Indian team after a good IPL.
Shikhar Dhawan a couple of months ago was dropped from the Indian ODI team as youngsters Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan were out performing him. Now he has played 2 good knocks in 2 games which may lead to his comeback. KL Rahul in 2020 returned to the Test side after a good IPL season but that situation was different as it is a red ball format.
When it comes to whiteball, it wouldn’t be too wrong to call back Shikhar Dhawan whose dismissal from the squad was controversial. If Dhawan continues to perform in this manner than his return to the ODI side will definitely be in talks. Currently Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma are undroppable but Dhawan could at least be in the squad as a backup.
Another player who could get into the ODI side is Dhawan’s Punjab Kings teammate Arshdeep Singh. India needs a left arm seamer in their squad and Arshdeep Singh has been consistent in T20Is and the IPL and it may be time to give him an opportunity in the ODIs.
Sanju Samson is also a candidate to come into the ODI set-up. He has a great record in that format and has been doing well in the IPL. India are searching for a middle order batter after the injury to Shreyas Iyer and the failures of Suryakumar Yadav.
The T20I squad will definitely have a lot of new faces as the 3 format players will most likely not play the T20Is. There is still a lot of time to go as the IPL has just started. India’s next ODI series is against West Indies and that will give an indication of things to come.
