(Football news) Last night was pretty eventful in Seville as Sevilla lost 4-1 at home to Borussia Dortmund. The hosts were 3-0 at half time after goals from Raphael Guerrero, Jude Bellingham and Karim Adeyemi. Youssef En-Nesyri did pull a goal back in the 2nd half but Julian Brandt scored Dortmund's 4th to put the game to bed. Minutes after the game Sevilla announced that Julen Lopetegui was sacked which doesn't come as a surprise. Sevilla are 17th on the La Liga table, just 1 point off the relegation zone. In the UCL they have 1 point in 3 games and a goal difference of -7.
The sacking is very unlucky for Julen Lopetegui as he has done an incredible job with Sevilla. During his time with the club, he won the Europa League and finished 4th in the La Liga during all 3 seasons. In the summer, Sevilla lost Diego Carlos, Jules Kounde and Lucas Ocampos who were the 3 most important players in the squad. Changing the manager whether right or not is the method every single club goes with when things start going wrong. Sevilla are set to appoint Jorge Sampaoli as their new manager. Sampaoli was Sevilla's manager for 1 season before leaving to take the Argentina national team job.
As for Lopetegui, he is reportedly on Wolves’ list to take over the club after Burno Lage was fired. The Spaniard is an excellent coach who has done well with Sevilla and Spain and will be a good candidate to take over the job at Wolves. The Wanderers are currently 18th on the Premier League table with only 6 points after 8 games. It will be interesting to see if Lopetegui goes into a job mid season, that too after just being sacked by another club.
