Serie A: Napoli continue their winning run as AC Milan and Juventus both win back to back games

(Football news) Napoli continued their 100% start to the season as they beat Cagliari to reclaim the top spot from AC Milan, who also won their fixture to maintain pressure on top. AS Roma and Inter Milan both dropped points as Juventus made it back to back victories. 

AC Milan won 2-1 against Spezia away from home as the side made tough work of their opponents. Poli made several changes to his starting XI as he had one eye on the midweek Champions League fixtures. In the first half, Milan didn’t have the usual flow to the game as it ended 0-0 at the break, but the story of the second half was different as Daniel Maldini rose the tallest and headed the ball in the net to give Milan the lead, In doing so he became the third generation Maldini to score for Milan as the Maldini legacy continued to live on. Although Spezia equalised, substitute Brahim Diaz continued his sublime form to win the match late on to claim all three points. With this result Milan have 16 points from 6 matches and are in 2nd position.

Inter Milan drew 2-2 against Atalanta at the San Siro, Inzaghi’s side were left frustrated as they started off the first half in superb fashion, Lautaro Martinez sublime volley put Inter in the lead in the first five minutes but Atalanta completely changed the match around as goals from Ruslan Malinovskyi and Rafeal Toloi turned the game on its head. Edin Dzeko pulled the hosts level in the 71st minute after the keeper could only parry the ball to Dezko’s feet, late in the match Inter were awarded a penalty which was missed by Federico Dimarco. It was an end to end game which featured 40 shots on goal, the most in a Serie A game and it also meant that Inter’s run of 18 consecutive victories also came to an end. With this result Inter are 3rd with 14 points.

Juventus won a thrilling contest against Sampdoria 3-2 as the Old Lady looked to get their season back on track. Allegri’s side opened the scoring through a wonderfully placed volley by Dybala, tempo of the half gradually started to fall off but two minutes from the first half Bonucci drilled a penalty in the bottom left corner. In the second half Sampdoria came out all guns blazing, Maya Yoshida headed the ball in after Candreva’s delightful cross but Juve soon restored its two goal cushion after Locatelli scored his first goal for Juventus. Although Candreva scored with 7 minutes remaining Juventus held on to move to 9th position in the table with 8 points.

AS Roma lost 3-2 to Lazio in the Derby della Capitale, Jose Mourinho’s side suffered their second defeat this season. In the first half Sergej Milinkovic Savic put Lazio in the lead as he headed in Felipe Andersen’s cross which was parried by Patricio in the first 10 minutes, Lazio then doubled their advantage through a swift counterattack by Pedro in the 19th minute. Roma pulled one goal back through Zaniolo but in the second half Lazio restored their 2 goal advantage through Felipe Andersen, Mourinho’s side converted a penalty by Veretout but it wasn't enough as Lazio ran out as deserving winners. With this result Lazio move to 6th just a point behind Roma who are on 12 points and are in 4th position.

Napoli won 2-0 against Cagliari as goals from Victor Osimhen and Lorenzo Insigne helped maintain a perfect record in the league. With this result Napoli sit in a commanding position in the league as they are 2 points clear of AC Milan and have got 18 points from 6 matches with a superior goal difference of plus 14.
