Scotland host Ukraine in the World Cup qualifier playoffs

(Football news) The 2022 World Cup is all set and the groups have been drawn but there are 3 places yet to be filled. Australia will take on UAE on 7th June and the winner of that will face off Peru on 13th June for a place in the World Cup. New Zealand and Costa Rica will fight for one place on the 14th of June. In the UEFA qualifiers, Wales are already in the final of the last remaining play-off. They will face the winner of Ukraine and Scotland. The match was supposed to happen earlier along with the other UEFA playoffs but was postponed due to geopolitical reasons.

Scotland will be without Kieran Tierney who has been struggling with injuries. Andy Robertson played the whole 90 minutes in the Champions League final on Saturday after a very long season. Rangers midfielder Ryan Jack pulled out of the squad due to injury and he was replaced by Allan Campbell. As for Ukraine, Everton's Vitaliy Mykolenko and Manchester City's Oleksandr Zinchenko will play a crucial part. Both of them were excellent towards the end of the season for their clubs.

Scotland possible starting lineup:

Gordon; Hendry, Hanley, Cooper; O'Donnell, McTominay, McGregor, Robertson; McGinn, Dykes, Christie

Ukraine possible starting lineup:

Pyatov; Karavaev, Zabarnyi, Matvienko, Mykolenko; Malinovskyi, Stepanenko, Zinchenko; Yarmolenko, Yaremchuk, Tsygankov

The key battle will be between Zinchenko and McTominay in midfield. Ukraine's biggest challenge will be to try and stop Robertson who has been in incredible form this season. He will have to fight fatigue after having played so many games for Liverpool this season. The winner of the match will take on Wales in the playoffs final for a place in the World Cup. Scotland haven't qualified for a World Cup since 1998 while Ukraine haven't been at the finals since 2006. The match is expected to be very tight as both teams will be cautious.
