SC East Bengal and NorthEast United held to a cagey draw in the ISL

(Football news) NorthEast United drew 1-1 in the final game of their Indian Super League season against SC East Bengal at the Tilak Maidan Stadium on Monday. The points were shared between the two sides as Marco Sahanek and Antonio Perosevic found themselves on the scoresheet. SC East Bengal’s winless run extended to seven matches while NorthEast United managed to win only three games in their season.

The Red and Gold Brigade had two good chances early in the match with Lalrinliana Hnamte forcing the goalkeeper to make a good save and Mahesh Naorem Singh hit the crossbar. SCEB almost found the breakthrough when Antonio Perosevic’s volley missed the target by a few inches. The Highlanders took the lead just before the break against the run of play when a header from Deshorn Brown hit the left post and fell to Marco Sahanek who buried the shot in the bottom right corner.

Despite being in the lead, the second half began with NorthEast United on the backfoot and the Highlanders conceded a penalty when Patrick Flottmann’s push on Fran Sota during an aerial battle was deemed a foul. Antonio Perosevic stepped up and sent Mirshad Michu the wrong way to equalise for SC East Bengal. NEUFC introduced Marcelinho to inject some energy into the final third and the Brazilian combined well with Suhair whose volley was punched away by Sankar Roy in goal. Despite four minutes added for stoppages, neither side found a breakthrough and both teams shared a point each.
