Salah’s penalty miss leads to Liverpool loss at Leicester; Spurs held by Saints

(Football news) The festive season of the Premier League is living up to its expectations of drama despite being plagued by Covid. Manchester City are currently well ahead in the title as they are 6 points clear of Chelsea and Liverpool.

3 first half goals were enough for Crystal Palace to get 3 points against Norwich. New signing Odsonne Edward was involved in all 3 goals as he slotted home a penalty in the 8th minute before setting up Jean-Philippe Mateta and Jeffrey Schlupp to make it 3-0 at half time. Norwich City came close quite a few times but couldn't finish them off which is a prominent reason why they are rock bottom in the Premier League. Palace's next game is at home against West Ham while Norwich City travel to Leicester City.

10-man Southampton held the in-form Tottenham Hotspur at home. James Ward-Prowse gave the Saints an early lead after a long throw. Tottenham came back into the game when Mohammed Salisu brought down Son Heung-min in the penalty and picked up a 2nd yellow card in the process. Harry Kane fired in the penalty meaning that he had scored in 3 consecutive Premier League games after a tough start to the season. Despite playing with a man down for over 60 minutes the hosts held on to a draw. Harry Kane had a goal ruled out by VAR for a tight offside call in the 53rd minute. Tottenham didn't convert their chances and bottled the chance of going above West Ham in 5th place. Their next game is away against relegation threatened Wattford. Southampton on the other hand host Newcastle.

Jarrod Bowen set up Thomas Soucek for the equaliser 23 minutes later. Said Benrahma gave the Hammers the lead 2 minutes later. Bowen scored a goal in the 2nd half which was eventually ruled out for a foul in the build up after consultation with VAR. Moments later Bowen won a penalty which captain Mark Noble buried. In injury time Bowen once again gave an assist this time to Nikola Vlasic. West Ham won a game after 5 winless games in all competitions. They have an away trip to Crystal Palace next up. Watford on the other hand host Tottenham Hotspur.

Liverpool lost ground on the title race as they lost 1-0 to Leicester City at the King Power stadium. Salah won a penalty in the 16th minute but the spot kick was saved by Kasper Schmeichel. Ademola Lookman came on as a sub in the 56th minute and broke the deadlock 3 minutes later. The goal was enough to secure 3 very important points for the Foxes who are now 9th on the table and will host Norwich City next. Liverpool now find themselves 6 points behind league leaders Manchester City. They have a very important away game against Chelsea on Sunday who are level with them on points.
