Despite winning the Formula One Singapore Grand Prix, Carlos Sainz has warned that Ferrari's vehicle still has flaws.

(Motorsports news) In Singapore, Sainz won his second consecutive pole position for 2023, and as the Ferraris struggled to reproduce their one-lap performance, the Spaniard took advantage of Red Bull’s off-weekend to snap the latter’s winning streak. While gaining the first non-Red Bull win of the season was a much-needed boost for Ferrari.

Sainz warned that the SF-23 hasn’t improved and still has unpredictable handling characteristics ahead of a new design for 2024. “No, honestly, nothing fundamental has changed on the car since the start of the season,” Sainz said when asked if Ferrari had managed to remedy its unpredictability.

“It is true that in the race, even in Singapore, we were nothing special,” he continued, “with tyre wear, tyre degradation, it still has its weaknesses that we need to address.” Because of Ferrari’s ebbs and flows, Sainz has given up on forecasting where the Scuderia will recreate its Singapore success, which was aided by his track position and cunning DRS maneuvers to hold Lando Norris and George Russell in check.

“Yes, and I think we also need to give credit to the team,” he added, Singapore was the pattern for how Ferrari should conduct a flawless race weekend. “Okay, I did my job with the DRS and pace management, but everything else was executed flawlessly.”

“I still believe we didn’t have the fastest race car in Singapore, but we won, which speaks well of Ferrari and the race execution that we did. So, I think we can be proud of it and give some credit to the team.” Now we can continue to develop momentum and confidence in ourselves for next year.”
