(Motorsports news) George Russell said, The Brackley team (Mercedes) won the constructors’ championship eight times between 2014 and 2021 and claimed seven drivers’ championships between Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg are now using that facet of their journey as an inspiration for their 2024 F1 Car. With the W13 last year, its performance suffered due to the new aerodynamic regulations, and during the past two seasons, it has only managed one victory.
This year’s W14 has benefitted from a number of upgrades, but in recent races Russell has questioned the set-up strategy, particularly after bouncing became a problem at Spa. When asked if he felt more at ease at Spa, Russell responded, “I believe this weekend’s proven that perhaps the set-up approach we’ve gone in recent races hasn’t been the appropriate one.
“Today, we endured a great deal of bouncing. A few teams did, perhaps not to the same extent as we did, but it is still regrettable to see that even at the highest level of the sport, the majority of teams still have bouncing issues. I’m hoping the issue can be resolved in the future.
When asked if the update’s general trend could be changed rather than the setup issue, he responded, “Yeah, absolutely can be modified. I believe we are putting a lot of effort on the traits for the following year. “We’re taking a lot of inspiration from how earlier Mercedes automobile generations operated during their heyday, as it’s obvious that those models were among the best ever made. Therefore, that has provided us with some hints about what we should try to aim for.
Russell is two positions behind teammate Lewis Hamilton in the standings as the summer break approaches, while Mercedes is second in the teams’ championship, trailing the powerful Red Bull outfit. Russell summed up the first half of the season thus: “A season of two halves. Therefore, I’d say the first six races were really competitive. Not so much in the previous six races. Quite a few opportunities were lost this season for a variety of reasons, which may be one reason why.
“Some of my points were lost due to blunders I made, such as the failure in Australia. Even yet, if you’re not competing for the P1 in the drivers’ championship, your goal should be to maximize the constructors’, and so far, we’re doing that in a roundabout way.”I have no doubt that we’ll be competitive in the second half of the season. Additionally, after the break, a few minor items will be added. But I’m optimistic that we can attempt to cut the gap further and sort of secure the second-best team place.
