Rohit Sharma and the other Indian players who are a part of the forthcoming ODI series have arrived in Colombo. Rohit travelled to Sri Lanka from the US while the other players checked into their hotel on Sunday night. Among them were Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Kuldeep Yadav, and Harshit Rana.
The players from the ODI squad are expected to undergo net sessions on Monday. Abhishek Nayar, India’s assistant coach has been sent to Colombo to oversee the proceedings. Nayar left for Colombo on Monday morning after India’s win in the second T20I on Sunday night. The other members of the ODI squad will be travelling to Colombo post the completion of the 3rd and Final T20I.
India has also bagged the T20I series with a game to go. The focus will now be on the all-important 50-over series. The series becomes more integral given that there is a Champions trophy scheduled to take place early next year and India has limited ODIs before that. India will be playing ODIs after more than 8 months, while the likes of Rohit, Virat, and a few other senior players will be in action in the ODI format for the first time after the 2023 ODI World Cup finals.
The ODI series starts in Colombo on August 2 as the Gambhir-Rohit duo come together for their first assignment. All three games will be played at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium. The series concludes on August 7, after the second ODI on August 4.
Meanwhile, Morne Morkel is expected to join the coaching staff under Gambhir as a bowling coach. His involvement with the team is anticipated to begin with the home series against Bangladesh, starting in September.
