Rishabh Pant makes the much-awaited return to cricket

(Cricket News) The star-Indian batter and the captain of Delhi Capitals, Rishabh Pant makes a comeback to cricket after a gap of 453 days since his last competitive game. Pant suffered a life-threatening accident on the morning of 31st December 2022, that shook the entire cricketing fraternity.

At the toss he mentioned that it’s a very emotional moment for him returning to the field. Coming out to bat Pant received a special standing ovation from the Mohali crowd on his return. Looking as fit as ever, he looked comfortable in the middle, however he was a bit rusty after a long time off from the sport.

It took him 7 balls to get his first boundary when he pulled a short of length ball, and was dropped by Harshal Patel, which went for a four. He kept the singles on, but wasn’t able to time the ball that well. He scored a crisp boundary, off a cover drive to further add to his score and also took a couple of doubles.

He fell off the 13th ball trying to guide a short ball uppishly but presenting a simple catch at backward point. His much-awaited comeback ended on 18 off 13. Although he could put up a huge impact in the context of the game, but it was huge nevertheless in the bigger picture for the Capitals, as well as the Indian side.

Pant, the keeper looked at his 100% as well. He looked pretty solid behind the stumps and almost pulled off a stumping down the leg side of Jitesh Sharma. His quick glove-work however did come into effect, as he stumped Jitesh later off Kuldeep.

Pant’s comeback was something that the entire cricketing world was waiting for. His determination and will helped him to recover from a scary injury in less than 16 months. Him being fit is crucial for the Indian side as well, given that a T20 Word Cup is just around the corner.
