Ricciardo criticizes the “lame” rule that caused him to be lapped at the restart in Brazil

Daniel Ricciardo has blasted the FIA for "lame" rules that "zapped" the fun out of his 2023 Brazilian Grand Prix after being lapped nearly quickly.

(Motorsports news) Daniel Ricciardo was scheduled to retire from the 71-lap race at Interlagos after a tyre fell on the rear wing in the first-corner shunt between Alex Albon and Kevin Magnussen. However, due to additional barrier repairs, the race was shortly red-flagged to allow the crew to make modifications and re-enter Ricciardo. McLaren did the same after Oscar Piastri was caught up in the ruckus.

Instead of the reorganized standing start, the competitors were compelled to restart the race from the pit lane. Both drivers were also relegated to a lap behind the remaining vehicles. This is due to the fact that they both pitted at the end of the first lap when they were supposed to be pulled, but the rest of the field continued through the pit lane behind the safety car until the race was eventually called off.

“Any cars in their garage at the time the race was suspended will be arranged at the back of the line of cars in the fast lane of the pits in the order they arrived,” the FIA Sporting Regulations state. “Any such cars will be allowed to leave the pit lane when the race resumes, but must re-enter the pit lane when the safety car returns, and may rejoin the race once the final car has crossed the pit exit after the re-star.

“Each lap completed using the procedures will be counted as a race lap as appropriate.” However, Ricciardo has taken aim at these “lame” rules that do not allow for more “common sense” since he believes he should have been counted on the same lap as the rest of the group. “We hoped there was a red flag and we can get back in the race,” Ricciardo told reporters. “So, we arrived in the pits. We’d heard there were some reds.

The guys did an excellent job repairing the car, and we are now set to depart. “Then they tell me Oscar and I are going to start a lap down.” All of your desire to run again is utterly extinguished.
