Reece Topley Withdraws from Pakistan Super League

(Cricket News) Fast bowlers Reece Topley and Ihsanullah have both been ruled out of the upcoming Pakistan Super League due to injuries. Topley’s absence was announced on Sunday by Sultans owner Ali Tareen, who tweeted, “[Topley] has not received his NOC [no-objection certificate from England] and is out of the PSL.”

Topley has not played in the PSL before, but he had a full T20 workload through the winter, playing 12 games in the SA20 with Durban Super Giants and finishing ninth on the tournament wickets chart. He is also scheduled to play in the IPL with Royal Challengers Bangalore.

According to Sources, his injury is not severe enough to prevent him from playing in the IPL, and his removal from the PSL was a precautionary measure because there will be a T20 World Cup in the USA and the Caribbean in June.

The Sultans are understood to have been considering Olly Stone, who recently participated in both the SA20 and the ILT20, as well as Sri Lankan seamer Dushmantha Chameera. Chameera injured his left quadriceps on Sunday and will miss the remainder of the white-ball series against Afghanistan; the extent of his injury is currently unknown.

The PSL begins on Sunday, February 17. The Sultans have advanced to the finals in each of the last two seasons, but have lost to Lahore Qalandars each time.
