When Real Madrid resumes their La Liga campaign on the road against Rayo Vallecano on Sunday afternoon, they will be looking to win three straight games across all competitions

(Football news) Due to their terrible play, Rayo has dropped to 14th position in La Liga, seven points above the relegation zone. Los Blancos are currently leading the table, five points ahead of Girona in second place.

Since the beginning of January, Rayo has not won in the top flight of Spain. In fact, they have lost four of their past five league games, including their last three 2-1 losses to Atletico Madrid, Sevilla, and Mallorca.

Due to the squad’s bad performance, Francisco was fired as head coach of the capital team. Inigo Perez, 36, will take over as coach and his goal is to get the team back up the division.

Rayo’s poor form has seen them drop into 14th position, with a record of five wins, nine draws and 10 defeats from 24 matches giving them just 24 points. It is not quite time to hit the panic button, though, as the capital outfit are still seven points ahead of 18th-placed Cadiz and sit just three points behind Alaves in 12th.

Rayo, who finished 11th in Spain’s top flight last season, have actually only lost one of their last three league games against Real Madrid and recorded a 3-2 victory in the corresponding fixture last term.

RB Leipzig was defeated 1-0 by Real Madrid in the first leg of their last-16 Champions League match on Tuesday, with Brahim Diaz scoring the game’s lone goal. Real Madrid will be coming into this match fresh off that victory.

Meanwhile, Los Blancos defeated Girona 4-0 last weekend in the league, giving them a five-point lead at the top and a ten-point advantage over Barcelona in third place.

The big games keep coming for Real Madrid as they will take on Sevilla and Valencia in their next two in the league before hosting RB Leipzig for the second leg of their last-16 Champions League title, and their form is even more impressive considering the injuries that the team have had to contend with this term.

With 29 points from 12 games this season, Carlo Ancelotti’s team has the best travel record in the division. They have won three straight games away from home in La Liga.

Real Madrid will be optimistic about securing another crucial three points on Sunday, since Rayo has just eight points from 11 games this season, the second-worst home record in Spain’s premier division.
