Real Madrid to track left backs Alphonso Davies, Fran Garcia and Miguel Gutierrez

Real Madrid could strengthen the left back position next season as it is their weakest link

Alphonso Davies' Bayern Munich contract ends in 2024

(Football news) Ferland Mendy’s place in the Real Madrid squad has been questioned for a while now. The Frenchman is defensively pretty solid but his offensive game has never been up to the mark. David Alaba is his competition at left back but the Austrian is much better at the heart of the defense. Nacho is another player who can play there but he is right footed which is never ideal. It is a popular opinion that left back is the weakest position at Real Madrid. Los Blancos will be looking to buy a left back to get some competition for Mendy. As of now the options are Fran Garcia, Alphonso Davies and Miguel Gutierrez.

Out of all of them Alphonso Davies is definitely the best option. The 22 year old has been impressive with Bayern Munich for the past 3 seasons. He will be a perfect signing for Real Madrid especially given the experience he already has at such a young age. His contract runs out in 2024 but Bayern Munich won’t let him go that easy. His injury record is also a bit of concern and unlike the other two options he won’t come cheap.

Miguel Gutierrez has played a few times for Real Madrid and he has been impressive. His attacking game has always been better than Mendy but defensively he has to improve. In the summer he was sold to Girona but Real Madrid have 50% of his rights meaning that he could be brought back for a cheap price. A lot will depend on his performances for Girona in the season remaining. It will not be difficult to convince him to come back to Madrid as he came to the club at the age of 10.

Fran Garcia is possibly the cheapest option Real Madrid have available. He is another academy graduate who has been at Rayo Vallecano since 2020. Garcia hasn’t played a single minute for Real Madrid’s first team but he has been impressive with Rayo. His performance at Estadio de Vallecas when Rayo Vallecano beat Los Blancos 3-2 just before the World Cup will have definitely caught a few eyes in the Real Madrid hierarchy.
