Real Madrid to offer Luka Modric 1 year extension

(Football news) Real Madrid are 7 points away from winning their 35th La Liga title and are also in the UCL semi final and 36 Luka Modric has been at the heart of the team. The Croatian played one of the best passes of all time when Real Madrid were 10 minutes away from getting eliminated by Chelsea which showed his class. He has been putting in incredible performances and despite his age he never looks tired.

Last year, Real Madrid renewed Luka Modric's contract till 2022. Now strong reports claim that Los Blancos are ready to renew it for another year and the player wants to sign the deal. Carlo Ancelotti said that Luka Modric will finish his career at Real Madrid which is a big statement for a Real Madrid manager to make. Modric, who will turn 37 in September, is showing no signs of slowing down. The Croatian is still dominating the midfield along with his long term partners Casemiro and Toni Kroos along with youngsters Fede Valverde and Eduardo Camavinga. Even if Modric's performance drops by 50% he wouldn't be a bad player to have in and around the squad for another year and his presence alone would help Camavinga and Valverde.

Real Madrid's policy is clear that no long term contracts are given to players over the age of 35 which they have kept up for a long time. Modric himself has said that a long term contract is not on his mind and he would prefer to retire at Real Madrid. The Croatian certainly has the physical and mental abilities to keep up with the demands of Real Madrid. His renewal shouldn't be a problem for Real Madrid but the club may want to get it done with as soon as possible to concentrate on the renewals of Vinicius Jr, Marco Asensio and Eder Militao along with potential transfers of Kylian Mbappe, Aurélien Tchouaméni and Reece James.
