(Football news) Luka Modric’s last long term contract with Real Madrid was till 2021. Following that Los Blancos has offered him a 1 year extension twice because of their policy of only offering 1 year deals to players above the age of 35. Everytime it seems like Luka Modric is coming towards the end of his Real Madrid career, he comes back. Now his recent performance has convinced Real Madrid that Luka Modric can continue at the club for at least another year despite the fact that he will turn 38 years old in September. Modric has publicly stated many times that he wants to retire at Real Madrid and will wait for a renewal offer till the last minute.

A number of clubs including ones from Saudi Arabia have offered lucrative deals to him but he has always wanted to stay at Real Madrid and money has never been an issue. At the midpoint of the season with the growing form of Eduardo Camavinga, Fede Valverde, Dani Ceballos and Aurélien Tchouaméni; it seemed like Carlo Ancelotti had started the transition of Real Madrid’s midfield. However now Toni Kroos and Luka Modric have returned to their best form. Even Kroos who is out of contract at the end of this season is set to renew for another year. The pairing of Kroos and Modric has been consistent at the Bernabéu and it seems like the end is still not near.

Real Madrid have been linked with Jude Bellingham but it seems like the deal is not affecting the renewals of Kroos and Modric. While his club career is blossoming, Luka Modric is still playing for Croatia even after 1 World Cup silver medal and a bronze medal. He is likely to play till at least the Euro 2024 next year where the midfielder will most likely still be a Madrid player. From the last 3-4 seasons it looks like Real Madrid will finally start using Modric less and less but the Croatian continues to put in incredible performances despite his age.
