(Football news) Real Madrid last season won every single tournament they participated in in 2022 except the Copa Del Rey. Spain’s cup competition is something which always troubles Real Madrid. Los Blancos haven’t won the competition since 2014 which was also under Carlo Ancelotti. This is one competition which Real Madrid don’t win as often as the other ones. They have a good deep squad to try and win it this time around. The first step is the Round of 32 against 4th division side Cacereno.

Carlo Ancelotti has already confirmed that Thibaut Courtois, Dani Carvajal, David Alaba, Ferland Mendy, Toni Kroos, Karim Benzema and Vinicius Jr will not play. Mariano is injured and hence he won’t play. B team players Sergio Arribas, Nico Paz, Marvel and Alvaro Rodrigues are in the squad and could get some minutes. Despite Ancelotti saying that he is impressed by Eden Hazard after the World Cup, the Belgian didn’t play a single minute against Real Valladolid. Now in the absence of Vinicius Jr it will be a good opportunity for the Belgian.

Andriy Lunin was very impressive in Courtois’ absence last season and even this season he hasn’t done much wrong in the 6 games he has played. This is another good opportunity for him to impress the coach and book the spot for the whole competition. If Lunin does well then Ancelotti may give him the gloves in all the Copa Del Rey games but a slight mishap may force the Italian to bring Courtois in the later stages if Real Madrid reach there. The Spanish trio Jesus Vallejo, Nacho and Alvaro Odriozola will be looking to make the most of this opportunity.
