(Football News) Real Madrid have to get their tactics absolutely spot on to beat Manchester City and qualify for the Champions League final. Carlo Ancelotti has to take a massive call ahead of the match at the Etihad. Eder Militao who missed the last game due to suspension is back. The easy option would be to leave him out and continue with Antonio Rudiger and David Alaba in defence. However Militao’s tendency to perform in big games makes him a necessity. Ancelotti has preffered Alaba and Militao as a centre back partnership but that will have to change for this game
Antonio Rudiger locked up Erling Haaland in the 1st leg at the Santiago Bernabeu. Dropping him after that kind of performance would be very harsh and Ancelotti has already confirmed that he will start the game. That means that David Alaba will either drop to the bench or slot in at left back. Eduardo Camavinga has been in the form of his life and he too played well in the 1st leg. If he drops into midfield then only one of Fede Valverde and Rodrygo can play on the right wing because Luka Modric and Toni Kroos are still undroppable in big games.
The most likely outcome is that Rodrygo, despite being in incredible form, will drop to the bench. It will be a tough call which will make Real Madrid’s attack a little weak. However Rodrygo coming off the bench against tired legs could be very helpful. Real Madrid will have a better defense which will be key against Manchester City especially at the Etihad where Los Blancos have never won. It remains to be seen what Carlo Ancelotti does and how it affects the end result for Real Madrid.
