(Football news) At this moment in time Real Madrid have an incredible midfield. The experienced old guards Toni Kroos and Luka Modric are still going strong. Kroos in the first half of the season played some of the best football of his career while Modric was on fire at the World Cup once again. Youngsters Aurélien Tchouaméni, Eduardo Camavinga and Fede Valverde are improving constantly as they are already a key part of the Madrid squad as well as their national teams.

Dani Ceballos is a perfect squad player who can deliver when called upon and is also a good player to bring on in the dying minutes to protect a lead. Marco Asensio is another player who can play in midfield while the academy also has a couple of bright prospects.

It wouldn’t be wrong to say that the midfield is Los Blancos’ strongest area but still Real Madrid are constantly linked with other midfielders. Madrid have been linked with Jude Bellingham for a long time now. There will be a lot of competition for Bellingham mainly from Liverpool. Enzo Fernandez who had an incredible World Cup is also in Madrid’s radar along with Liverpool. The likely outcome of this is that out of Fernandez and Bellingham, Real Madrid would get one while Liverpool would get the other. Manuel Locatelli and Sergej Milinković-Savić are the others linked with Madrid.

The reason Madrid are looking to sign midfielders despite it being so strong is the uncertainty of next season. Luka Modric and Toni Kroos are still the first choice midfielders and both of their contracts are expiring at the end of the season. Real Madrid wouldn’t want to take any risk and make any panic signings in case one or both of them leave. Incase both the veterans end up staying then it would be a gradual transition. Real Madrid made a mistake by not signing a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo in 2018 and paid the price, therefore they will not be making the same mistake again.
