Former India fielding coach R Sridhar will oversee a comprehensive 10-day fielding programme in Sri Lanka, working with a broad range of the country’s top male and female cricketers.
Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) announced that Sridhar’s camp will cater to the men’s and women’s national teams, emerging squads, premier club players, the national Under-19 team, and the women’s ‘A’ team. However, the national women’s side may participate only in part, as they are currently involved in a tri-series against India and South Africa, which concludes on May 11.
A BCCI Level 3 certified coach, Sridhar brings extensive experience, having served as India’s fielding coach in over 300 international fixtures between 2014 and 2021. According to SLC, Sridhar will begin the programme with the Sri Lankan men’s national team before moving on to work with the other squads. His sessions will include fielding drills, skill-specific training, and simulated match situations designed to mirror real-game conditions.
SLC has occasionally enlisted foreign experts for similar short-term programmes. In 2024, Zubin Bharucha of Rajasthan Royals conducted a batting-focused camp, while past initiatives have featured Wasim Akram and Jonty Rhodes leading short bowling and fielding stints respectively.
