PSG will play Lens in Ligue 1

On Sunday, Paris Saint-Germain will return to their pursuit of the Ligue 1 championship when they play Lens at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis in the north

(Football news) In 2024, Luis Enrique’s team has already marched to Trophee des Champions et Coupe de France victories, while their hosts are hoping to avoid losing in all competitions for the third time in a row.

Lens and PSG will begin their calendar years with an exciting matchup in front of the passionate Sang et Or supporters for the second time in as many seasons. Franck Haise’s team defeated the capital powerhouses 3-1 on New Year’s Day in 2023.

Lens was only one point away from winning the title the previous season, but a year later, Haise’s team is struggling just to save their European status, and their final chance to compete on the continent in 2024–25 has already passed.

Indeed, on January 7, Lens faced Monaco in the third-round of the Coupe de France, and although they rallied from a 2-0 deficit to force penalties, they were unable to maintain composure from a 12-yard line. Meanwhile, five Merlus penalties found the back of the net, and four individuals misplayed.

With Nice emerging as PSG’s closest rivals in light of the hosts’ current situation, Lens’s early cup elimination followed a depressing 2-0 loss to the team. Haise’s team enters gameweek 18 in seventh place in the standings, five points outside the quarterfinals.

The Europa League knockout round playoff match against Freiburg is scheduled for February, thus Lens is still alive to compete for trophies this season. They also host PSG to their menacing headquarters while they are riding a four-game home winning streak in the French top flight.
