(Cricket News) Rovman Powell, the West Indies T20I captain is desperate to get Sunil Narine back in the West Indies squad for the upcoming T20I World Cup. West Indies will be hosting the global event and would want to prove their merit in their strongest format.

Sunil Narine, the West Indian all-rounder has been in red hot form in this years IPL. Their was never a doubt with his bowling ability, but what came into light this year was his batting. Narine was once again made to open the innings for KKR in the IPL and he did not disappoint. In 6 games so far, he has scored 276 runs at an average of 46. He is currently on the third place in the Orange cap leaderboard.

Few days ago, Sunil Narine was certain that he would be watching the upcoming T20 World Cup “from home”. But speaking to Harsha Bhogle after his 49-ball hundred against Rajasthan Royals at the Eden Gardens, the all-rounder said “It is what it is but we will have to see what the future holds”.

Narine’s statement has given some hope to the West Indian captain as well as to the fans from the Caribbean. West Indies captain Rovman Powell, who was in the opposition camp on Tuesday (April 16), revealed later that he’s been trying to get the big man to come out of international retirement.

“For the last 12 months, I have been whispering in his ears,” Powell said of Narine, “but he’s blocked out everyone.”

“I’ve asked [Kieron] Pollard, [Dwayne] Bravo, [Nicholas] Pooran. Hopefully, before they select the team, they can crack his skull.”

Narine called time to his international career in November 2023. He last played for his national side in August 2019. His form however has tempted the West Indian skipper to call him out of his retirement and be a part of the home side in the global event.
