FIR also lists DNA Entertainment, RCB’s event partners, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association
Bengaluru police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) franchise, their event partners DNA Entertainment, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) following a stampede on Wednesday that resulted in the deaths of 11 fans and injuries to many more. The incident occurred outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium during celebrations for RCB’s IPL victory.
The FIR, a copy of which has been seen by ESPNcricinfo, lists RCB as the primary accused. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has ordered the arrest of representatives from all parties named in the FIR and has also suspended the Inspector of the Cubbon Park police station, which has jurisdiction over the incident area.
The police report includes six sections of the Indian Penal Code, including charges related to culpable homicide not amounting to murder, voluntarily causing harm, and unlawful assembly.
In response to the tragedy, the Karnataka government announced the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the cause of the stampede. This follows an earlier magisterial inquiry ordered by CM Siddaramaiah, with a report expected within 15 days.
Both the state government and RCB have announced a compensation of INR 10 lakh for the families of the deceased and committed to covering all medical expenses for the injured. The government is also considering implementing new operating procedures for public gatherings to prevent future incidents. RCB has been contacted for a comment on the matter.
