Pakistan Penalized 2 World Test Championship Points for Slow Over Rate

(Cricket News) “Pakistan was penalized for maintaining a slow over-rate against Australia in the first Test in Perth. The visitors were fined 10 percent of their match fee and two ICC World Test Championship points were deducted from their total,” the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced in an official statement on Monday.

“Pakistan were penalized for maintaining a slow over-rate against Australia in the first Test in Perth,” the ICC said in an official statement. “When time allowances were taken into account, Pakistan was ruled to be two overs short of the target.”

The ICC further stated in a statement that players are fined five percent of their match fee for each over in which their team fails to bowl in the allotted time, in accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offenses.

Pakistan had fallen to No. 2 on the WTC standings following a crushing 360-run loss in the first Test, and the penalty means that their percentage points have dropped from 66.67 to 61.11.

Additionally, a side is fined one point per incomplete under Article 16.11.2 of the ICC World Test Championship playing regulations, meaning that a side’s total World Test Championship points have been reduced by two.
