Pakistan name Azhar Mahmood as head coach for NZ series

(Cricket News) Pakistan has appointed Azhar Mahmood, the former Pakistan all-rounder as the team’s head coach for their upcoming series against New Zealand at home. Pakistan are set to face the Kiwis in a 5-match T20I series in Lahore and Rawalpindi.

Pakistan is still in search of a full-time head coach. They are without the services of a head coach since the departure of Grant Bradburn along with Micky Arthur who had served as Director of Cricket.

Many people have been in reckoning for the post, however the PCB has still not managed to crack a deal with anyone. Shane Watson, the former Australian all-rounder was also in PCB’s list at one point in time.

Azhar Mahmood has been appointed for a short period of time, which would only go until the end of this home series against New Zealand. PCB will again be in search of a full-time option to the Pakistan’s men side post this series.

Mahmood has been a part of the Pakistani national set-up previously, where he served as a bowling coach until 2019. He has also had stints with in the Pakistan Super League. He will now join the Pakistan side for an important assignment ahead of the T20 World Cup in June.

Mahmood will be accompanied by the likes of Mohammad Yousuf and Saeed Ajmal who will serve the role of the batting and bowling coach respectively. Additionally Wahab Riaz, the former pacer has been named the senior team manager.

The 5-match series will commence on the 18th of April, with the last game to be played on the 27th April.
