Djokovic

(Tennis news) With victories at the Australian Open and the French Open, the Serb has enjoyed a fantastic season thus far. He won his opening match at Wimbledon against Pedro Cachin 6-3, 6-3, 7-6(4) and then defeated Jordan Thompson 6-3, 7-6(4), 7-5.

The Serb defeated Stan Wawrinka in the third round 6-3, 6-1, 7-6(4) to advance to a matchup with Hubert Hurkacz in the fourth. By defeating the Pole 7-6(6), 7-6(6), 5-7, 6-4, Djokovic was able to advance to the quarterfinals. He lost a set against Andrey Rublev, the seventh seed, in this match. However, he won the following three sets to advance to the grasscourt Major semifinals with scores of 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, and 6-3.

Sinner won the Open 13 in Montpellier, where he defeated Maxime Cressy in the championship match, for his lone victory in 2023. He also advanced to the Italian Open semifinals, the Monte-Carlo Masters final, and the Miami Open final.

The Italian, who was seeded ninth going into Wimbledon, beat Diego Schwartzman and Juan Manuel Cerundolo of Argentina in straight sets to advance to the final. He overcame Quentin Halys and Daniel Elahi Galan in this match, winning 7-6(4), 6-4, and 6-3 to advance to the quarterfinals and play Roman Safiullin.

Prior to the Russian winning the second set 6-3 to tie the match, Sinner won the opening set 6-4. After that, the Italian won the following two sets 6-2, 6-2 to advance to his first Grand Slam semifinal.

Head-to-Head

In their head-to-head matchup versus Sinner, Djokovic is up 2-0. The Serb narrowly prevailed in their most recent encounter, which took place in the Wimbledon quarterfinals of 2022, with scores of 5-7, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, and 6-2.

Predictions

Sinner is capable of giving Djokovic a fight for his money, despite the fact that the Serb will go into the match as the favourite to win.

Serving five aces and winning 53 of 71 points in his quarterfinal match against Rublev, the 36-year-old was outstanding on his first serve. Additionally, he took 21 of 27 shots at the goal. The Serb had 23 unforced errors compared to 42 winners.

Being one of the best grass court players of all time, Djokovic’s game will be challenging to match, not to mention his mentality, which is his hidden weapon.

In his encounter against Roman Safiullin, Sinner served 14 aces and won 43 of 48 points, demonstrating the effectiveness of his first serve. The Italian made 20 unintentional mistakes, yet he won 36 games instead, a much greater percentage.

On grass, Sinner is an excellent mover and will aim to be aggressive right away. He will have to come up with something very exceptional to beat Djokovic. Djokovic just can’t seem to stop winning, so he should be able to prevail and secure a spot in the Wimbledon final, even though Sinner cannot be discounted.
