Nicholas Pooran Named Vice-Captain, Replacing Krunal Pandya at LSG

(Cricket News) Explosive West Indies batsman Nicholas Pooran has been named vice-captain of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Lucknow Super Giants for the 2024 season, taking the place of all-rounder Krunal Pandya.

The IPL 2024 tournament is scheduled to begin on March 22. This announcement precedes that date. On March 24, in Jaipur, LSG will take on the Rajasthan Royals in their opening IPL 2024 match.

At the 2023 auction, Pooran was purchased by LSG for INR 16 crore, making it the most expensive wicketkeeper acquisition in IPL history. With a strike rate of almost 173, the hard-hitting Caribbean great scored 358 runs in an outstanding IPL 2023 season. His attacking approach will significantly improve Lucknow’s batting order.

Krunal, who previously captained the team with captain KL Rahul, steps down as deputy to be replaced by Pooran. Rahul was spotted on LSG’s official social media account presenting Pooran with the vice captain jersey, which had his number 29 on the back.

After demonstrating their abilities and earning a spot in the playoffs the year before, the Lucknow Super Giants lost to the Mumbai Indians in the elimination round. LSG wants to make a statement in the competition and make up for past mistakes as they prepare for their third IPL season.

The addition of Pooran as vice-captain enlivens the group, balancing Rahul’s leadership with insightful knowledge gained from his international circuit experience. Pooran relinquished his leadership after leading the West Indies cricket team in the past. During the ILT20 2024 season, he captained the MI Emirates as well.
