New Zealand’s Clinical Victory: Strolling Past Netherlands with a 99-Run Win

The Blackcaps continue their winning streak, adding additional two points to their account.
New Zealand vs Netherland

(Cricket News) New Zealand continued to impress in this World Cup as they beat the Netherlands by 99 runs. The Blackcaps impressed in all three departments: batting, bowling, and fielding, as they continue to be the table-toppers. For the Dutch, it is the second loss in a row. They have shown moments of greatness, but they have failed to cross the finish line as a team.

Netherlands won the toss, and they chose to field first. This decision looked to be a good one, as New Zealand were 0-0 after 3 overs. Devon Conway broke the run drought as he opened his account with a boundary. The openers made up for the three maiden overs at the beginning as they shifted gears, found frequent boundaries, and rotated strike. New Zealand were 63-0 for 10 overs.

Van der Merwe got the breakthrough, getting Devon Conway out for 32. Out came Rachin Ravindra, who took off right where he left off in the previous match. Will Young scored his maiden World Cup fifty and was soon dismissed by van Meekeren. Daryl Mitchell and skipper Tom Latham scored 48 and 53, respectively, while Mitchell Santner finished the inning off with a quickfire 36 of 17 deliveries.

End of first innings: New Zealand 322-7; Will Young 70 (80); Tom Latham 53 (46); van der Merwe 9-56-0-2; Ryan Klein 7-41-1-3.

In reply, most of the Netherland batters got off to good starts, but only Colin Ackermann scored a fifty. Colin Ackermann and Teja Nidamanuru stitched a fifty run partnership, but a mix-up sent the latter back to the pavillion. Ackermann was joined by skipper Scott Edwards, and the two of them kept the scoreboard ticking, but it was Mitchell Santner who picked both of the batsman’s wickets in the same over, extinguishing Netherlands hopes.

End of second innings: Netherlands 223-10; Colin Ackerman 69 (73); Scott Edwards 30 (27); Mitchell Santner 10-59-0-5; Matt Henry 8.3-40-0-3.
