New Zealand continued their impressive run in the World Cup by winning their third match in a row, beating Bangladesh by eight wickets. The blackcaps jump to the first position in the points table with 6 points with a Net Run Rate of +1.604.

New Zealand won the toss and chose to bowl first, and this proved to be a good decision by them as Trent Boult picked up a wicket on the very first delivery, getting the wicket of Litton Das. Tanzin Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz got off to good starts, but they failed to convert them into big scores as Lockie Fergsuson took their wickets.

The experienced duo of Shakib al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahman stitched together a 100+ run partnership and looked to put a total for New Zealand to chase, but their partnership couldn’t last long as the Chennai heat and body cramps got the best of Shakib al Hasan, and Mushfiqur Rahman was dismissed by Matt Henry.

Handy contributions from Towid Hridoy, Mahmudullah, and Taskin Ahmed propelled Bangladesh to a target of 245-9 in 50 overs.

End of first innings: Bangladesh 245-9; Mushfiqur Rahim 66 (75); Mahmudullah 41 (49); Lockie Ferguson 10-49-0-3; Trent Boult 10-45-0-2.

New Zealand looked very comfortable in the chase, as every batsman got to double figures except for Rachin Ravindra. Captain Kane Williamson looked in good touch as he scored 78 in 107 deliveries before retiring with a knee injury and an injured thumb.

Devon Conway scored a fighting 45 before getting trapped in a LBW by Shakib al Hasan and Daryl Mitchell scored his maiden World Cup fifty, scoring 89 in 67 deliveries. New Zealand comfortably chased this target with 43 deliveries.

End of second innings: New Zealand 242-8; Daryl Mitchell 89 (67); Kane Williamson 78 (107); Mustafizur Rahman 8-36-0-1; Shakib al Hasan 10-54-0-1.
