After a 4-0 hammering by France, Netherlands bounced back to open their account in the Euro 2024 qualifiers
Netherlands

(Football news) Netherlands defeated Gibraltar 4-0 at the Stadion Feijenoord. The victory was very important after the devastating loss to France. Ronald Koeman made 4 changes as Denzel Dumfries and Mattijs de Ligt came in for Jurrien Timber and Lutsharel Geertruida in defense. Marten de Roon and Kenneth Taylor dropped the bench as Koeman changed the system by going in with just 2 midfielders with Memphis Depay as a number 10/second striker. Mats Wieffer joined Gini Wijnaldum in midfield while Wout Weghorst returned to the starting line-up.

The Netherlands were playing with purpose from the first whistle. The opening goal was scored by Memphis Depay who headed home a pinpoint cross by Denzel Dumfries. The Inter Milan right back assisted the 2nd goal as well in the 49th minute when Nathan Ake scored the header. In the very next minute, Liam Walker was shown a straight red card for a terrible and dangerous challenge on Mats Wieffer. Ake scores his 2nd in the 81st minute with a long shot that deflected it’s way into the goal. The Dutch team had a really good game and they could’ve scored a few more goals to help their goal difference.

Netherlands had an incredible 86 percent possession and 12 shots on target. Fullbacks Nathan Ake and Denzel Dumfries had a good game. Ake scored twice while Dumfries assisted twice.

Gibraltar on the other hand didn’t have a single shot. The Dutch team will be hoping to have a much better international break the next time around. The top 2 sides will qualify for the EUROs and Ronald Koeman’s men are currently 3rd on the table. Koeman will definitely need some time to figure out his best team and his best system.
