(Basketball news) The Milwaukee Bucks got back to winning ways as they defeated the Washington Wizards 123-113. For the Bucks, Antetokounmpo scored a career-high 55 points with a series of thrilling dunks and drives as the spectacular forward also had 10 rebounds and seven assists to continue arguably the best stretch of his career. The only other players in NBA history to have three straight performances of 40 points, 10 rebounds and five assists are Elgin Baylor in 1961 and 1963, Wilt Chamberlain in 1963 and Russell Westbrook in 2016. Bobby Portis had 17 points and 13 rebound as Jrue Holiday returned to action after missing three games with a non-COVID illness and scored six points in 19 minutes
For the Wizards, Kristaps Porzingis scored 22 points and Kyle Kuzma added 20 as Bradley Beal returned after missing three games with a sore left hamstring, but he played just 13 minutes and scored 8 points. The Bucks snapped the Wizards’ five-game winning streak as Milwaukee improved their record to 24-13.
”I want to get in a position … that my game is boring,” Antetokounmpo said. ”I just do what I do and people don’t talk about it because it becomes boring – I do it every single night. That’s what I want to do. I want other people to feel like my game is boring. But I don’t get bored. The greats – the best players – never get bored. They go out there and they always give their best any given night.”
”He’s been kind of playing with this kind of determination, this kind of just willing us in games,” Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer said. ”Tonight we were able to win it. He’s just been phenomenal.”
”He’s just constantly improving,” said Lopez, who had 21 points and 12 rebounds. ”When you think where else can he go and how else can he improve, he just improves again. We’re going to have to expand the English language in some way to come up with words (to describe him). I don’t know if I’ve said that before, but I’m sure he’s going to improve again. Who knows what he’s going to do next. He’s just so otherworldly.”
The Oklahoma City Thunder caused a massive upset when they brushed aside the Boston Celtics 150-117. For the Thunder, Josh Giddey scored a season-high 25 points while Lu Dort scored 23 points and Jalen Williams, Tre Mann and Isaiah Joe each added 21 points as they shot 59.2% from the field. For the Celtics, Jaylen Brown scored 29 points and Jayson Tatum added 27 points. Oklahoma City’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who ranks among the league’s leaders with 30.8 points per game, sat out the game with an illness. Without him, the Thunder set a record for points since the team changed its stadium from Seattle to Oklahoma before the 2008-2009 season as the previous mark was 149 points in 2013.
”I just think we’ve got great players and great people,” Mann said. ”Guys who don’t really care who gets the credit.”
”You have to play with a sense of humility every night knowing your opponent wants to beat you,” Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla said. ”We have to match that, and we didn’t. We got outplayed in every aspect of the game.”
”Late in the second quarter, they sort of put their head down, Boston did, and they got to the line and they were trying to play through us and they were just trying to like jam their way back into the game,” Daigneault said. ”And we needed to stand in there in order to fend that off. And I thought the guys did a really good job of that.”
