(Football news) Napoli seem to be unstoppable at the moment as their streak continued when Victor Osimhen's late goal secured a 1-0 win at AS Roma in Serie A on Sunday, as they went onto get 11 victories in a row in all competitions in front of a Roma crowd at the Stadio Olimpico. In the first half both sides were evenly matched in a very slow-paced match while Napoli thought they had a penalty in the 38th minute when Rui Patricio made a late challenge on midfielder Tanguy Ndombele, but the decision was overturned after a VAR check.
In the second half, Napoli controlled the game and had several chances to score, with Roma struggling to get the ball out of their own half. It was the Nigerian striker Osimhen who rose to the occasion and secured the win for Napoli 10 minutes before full time when he expertly volleyed in the ball from an acute angle with one touch. With this result Napoli now have a healthy three-point lead at the top with 29 points after 11 games, three ahead of AC Milan in second place and Roma drop down to fifth with 22 points.
Two goals by Brahim Diaz helped the hosts ease to a 4-1 win over newly promoted Serie A side Monza at San Siro on Saturday as they subsequently moved up to second place in the standings. Brahim opened the scoring in the 16th minute when he got the ball near the center of the pitch and made a brilliant solo run towards Monza goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio's goal before deftly finishing it into the bottom right corner. Monza had two great chances to level before the half-hour mark but Milan goalkeeper Ciprian Tatarusanu brilliantly saved the shots.
The Belgian made up for his first failed attempt by brilliantly setting Brahim up with a neat pass inside the box for him to double Milan's lead in the 41st minute. Brahim could have had an assist when he delivered a nice pass to Ante Rebic inside the box but Monza's Di Gregorio managed to make a brilliant save. Origi made it 3-0 in the 65th minute when he sent a powerful shot into the top right corner five minutes after Monza's Filippo Ranocchia pulled a goal back with a superb free kick. Milan put the final nail in the coffin when Rafael Leao sealed the win in the 84th with a fine strike inside the left post.
"Tonight's victory was difficult," Milan coach Stefano Pioli told the reporters "Monza played well, we knew that, and we could have managed the ball better in the first half, making them run a little more. But in the end it went well. I'm satisfied, we risked little and created a lot."
"When [Brahim is] well you can see [that] opponents struggle to catch him," Pioli added, before giving an update on the injury that forced him off the pitch in the 53rd minute. He had a muscle strain. It doesn't look like anything serious for him or [Sergino] Dest,"
