Napoli look to extend their lead while AC Milan face Fiorentina

(Football news) Napoli are eight points clear at the top of the table after they secured their 10 Serie A wins in a row as the side from Naples aim to extend their incredible run on Saturday against Udinese at the Stadio Maradona. Luciano Spalletti's side are certain to lead standings heading into next year and continue their pursuit of a first Scudetto title since the 1980s. Only twice before Napoli have strung together 10 league wins on the row, but this year they have equalled the feat following two more wins during the past week.

Napoli are going to be crowned the Campione d'Inverno ('winter champions') as they lead the way at the halfway stage. After hosting Udinese at home the Partenopei will not play again until early January, when they return to action against Inter and Juventus within their first three fixtures of 2023. It remains to be seen if Spalleti can maintain their momentum following such a long break, but they will certainly want to end this year by getting the better of their opponents on Saturday.

Napoli possible starting lineup:

Meret; Di Lorenzo, Kim, Jesus, Rui; Anguissa, Lobotka, Zielinski; Lozano, Osimhen, Elmas

Udinese possible starting lineup:

Silvestri; Perez, Bijol, Nuytinck; Pereyra, Lovric, Walace, Arslan, Ebosse; Deulofeu, Beto

AC Milan have slipped to third and eight points adrift of Napoli and the reigning champions AC Milan aim to conclude 2022 Sunday on a high note when they welcome Fiorentina to San Siro. The Rossoneri were surprisingly held by promoted side Cremonese in midweek which was their second straight draw away from home, so they will want to bolster their Scudetto defence by beating Fiorentina before the World Cup break. Days after scrapping out a win against Spezia thanks to brilliant Olivier Giroud late winner, Milan again found themselves frustrated by a Cremonese team who are yet to win since returning to Serie A this season and are in the relegation zone.

Tuesday's encounter saw Stefano Pioli's men totally dominate possession, but a combination of great goalkeeping and horrible finishing resulted in a scoreless draw that allowed Lazio to leapfrog them into second place in the standings. Milan this season have averaged 2.3 goals per game at home games, winning nine times and suffering only a solitary loss to leaders Napoli; keeping a clean sheet in half of those matches. Fiorentina on the other hand are unbeaten in their last three Serie A away games and are hoping to make it four in a row for the first time under Vincenzo Italiano.

AC Milan possible starting lineup:

Tatarusanu; Kalulu, Tomori, Kjaer, Hernandez; Tonali, Bennacer; Krunic, Diaz, Leao; Giroud

Fiorentina possible starting lineup:

Terracciano; Dodo, Milenkovic, Martinez Quarta, Biraghi; Amrabat, Mandragora; Ikone, Bonaventura, Kouame; Jovic
